career choice
Paleontologist
By: Andres Hernandez
I picked a paleontologist as my future career. The main reason I picked it is because it seems like lots of fun to learn and study about life in the past. It is fun to study old fossils. I have always liked seeing fossils of dinosaurs and other ancient species.
Being a paleontologist is also good in how much they pay you. From the first year of someone being a paleontologist they get a starting of 25,000 dollars a year at a small museum or 40,000 dollars a year at a larger museum. For an older and experienced paleontologist earns up to 130,920 dollars a year. Over all they make a very well living.
A very important and professional paleontologist is usually a college and university professor. To do that you would actually need your PhD. You first need to earn your bachelors degree. At a bachelor’s level, most trying to achieve it as a paleontologist major in geology, zoology, or biology. After completing your bachelor’s degree you get your masters (Which would take between 1 and 2 years to achieve it). After you achieve the masters you try and earn the PhD (which usually takes 4 to 5 years.
The first level in the career path is the museum technician; there you earn 25,000 to 50,000 a year. All you need is a bachelor’s degree in science. Level 2 is a museum collections manager; they earn 35,000 to 60,000 a year and they need a master’s degree in paleontology. Level 3 is the museum curator; they earn 40,000 to 80,000 a year and are people that have a PhD in Paleontology.
